Knee

The knee is a complex joint made up of bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles, which work together to maintain
normal function and provide stability to the knee during movement. Having a well-functioning, healthy knee is
essential for your mobility and ability to participate in various activities.

Common knee procedures and conditions treated at Salem Orthopaedic Surgery include:

Knee Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure performed using a special instrument called an arthroscope to diagnose or treat a knee problem.

Knee Replacement

During total knee replacement surgery, the damaged parts of the knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial implants.

Uni Knee Replacement

In this minimally-invasive surgery, also known as a partial knee replacement, only a portion of the knee is replaced with an artificial implant.

Revision Knee Replacement

During a revision knee replacement, some or all of the parts of a previous knee replacement are removed and replaced with new implants.

ACL Reconstruction

ACL reconstruction is surgery to replace a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee. One of several different surgical techniques may be used:

ACL Reconstruction Using Achilles Allograft

Reconstructing a torn ACL with an Achilles tendon from a donor.

ACL Reconstruction Hamstring Method

Reconstructing a torn ACL with a hamstring tendon.

ACL Reconstruction Patellar Tendon

Reconstructing a torn ACL with a patellar tendon.

Meniscus Repair

Arthroscopic surgery can be used to repair a tear in the meniscus, a small, "C" shaped piece of cartilage in the knee joint.

Osteochondral Autograft (Knee)

Osteochondral autograft surgery repairs damaged cartilage that lines the ends of bones in a joint.

Osteochondral Allograft (Knee)

Osteochondral allograft surgery uses a piece of tissue taken from a donor to replace damaged cartilage that lines the ends of bones in a joint.

Microfracture (Knee)

This surgical technique is used to repair articular cartilage damage in the knee called chondral defects.

Osteoarthritis

The most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis occurs when cartilage in the joint becomes damaged and worn out, causing pain, swelling and stiffness.

Patellofemoral Instability

Patellofemoral instability occurs when the patella (kneecap) moves out of its normal position, which can damage the muscles and ligaments that hold the knee in place.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner's Knee)

This condition is characterized by pain in the front of the knee around the patella (kneecap).
